B Corps: A Growing Economic Force in Europe

The rise of ‘Generation B’ is more than just a mindset shift—it’s fueling real economic growth. In Europe, the B Corp community continues to expand, with a 24% increase in the past 12 months alone. More than 2,100 Certified B Corps now operate across 31 countries, employing over 370,000 people in industries ranging from finance and technology to manufacturing and retail.1

A recent B Lab study2 also found that 57% of European consumers consider sustainability and certifications when making purchasing decisions and 49% factor it into job choices. Simultaneously, nearly one in four Europeans now recognize Certified B Corps. Especially among younger generations (25-34), recognition is soaring, reflecting a strong demand for purpose-driven companies.

“Sustainability is Europe’s competitive advantage,” says Juliette Caulkins, Managing Director of B Lab Europe. “Across the region, we’re seeing a generational shift in business—where companies that prioritize people and the planet are proving to be more resilient and financially successful.3 Consumers, employees, and investors are demanding better business, and B Corps are delivering. Now, it’s up to the EU to safeguard its Green Deal ambitions, protecting Europe’s competitive advantage while supporting responsible businesses.”

Raising the Bar: A New Generation of B Corp Standards

As the movement continues to grow, B Lab is preparing to launch the next generation of standards for B Corp Certification, ensuring businesses remain at the forefront of responsible leadership, and setting a high bar for transparency, accountability, and impact.

This evolution of B Corp Certification is more than just a milestone—it’s a challenge to businesses everywhere to step up and prove that profit and purpose can go hand in hand. As these new standards take effect, the question is no longer why businesses should act responsibly, but how they will rise to meet the challenge.
